The top-ranked teams in the local coaches’ Division I track and field polls lived up to their billing on Thursday at the Colerain Invitational.

Mason won the girls’ meet with 102.5 points, out-distancing McAuley (77) by 25.5 points.  No. 2-ranked Colerain finished third (69.5).

The Comets won the 4-by-200 relay and also the 4-by-800 relay behind the foursome of Angela Bizzarri, Katie Chaney, Kelsey Flaherty and Stephanie Chaney.  Bizzarri (Illinois), Chaney (Ohio U.), and Chaney (Xavier) are all Division I signees.  Bizzarri, a three-time state champion in the 3,200-meter run, set a meet record in that event (2:16.48).

La Salle edged No. 8 Middletown in the boys’ meet.  La Salle junior Kyle Lang won the 1,600 meter (4:31) and 3,200 (9:41.9) events.  The Lancers finished second and third, respectively, in the 400 and 200 meter relay events.

Middletown had a strong day with Skylar Jones winning the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Larry Carter (400 meters), Scott Johnson (100 dash) and Dee Conley (200 meters) posted first place finishes and the Middies set a meet record in the 4-by-200 relay (1:29.1).
