Two Greater Miami Conference pitchers hurled
perfect games for the first time in their school’s histories last week.
On Thursday, Katherine
Stetz became the first Lakota East girls’ softball pitcher to throw a
perfect game as the Lady Hawks defeated Milford 11-0 in five innings.
Stetz’s accomplishment came against an Eagles’ team that had beaten the
Lady Hawks 1-0 earlier in the season.
Stetz overpowered Eagle
hitters throughout the game, striking out nine of the 15 batters she
faced.
“I knew I was pitching
well, but didn’t realize what had happened until Coach Castner ran out
on the field and asked me if I had any idea what I’d just done,” said
Stetz. “I was really in a zone and just concentrating on helping my
team win.”
Stetz joins an elite
group of five other Lakota School district softball pitchers (four from
West) that have recorded perfect games. Of the seven perfect games
pitched in district girl’s softball history (two by Lindsay Bodeker of
West) only two have gone the full seven innings.
The same day,
Fairfield senior right-hander Mindy Breitholle threw the first perfect
game in school history Thursday as the host Indians beat Middletown 4-0.
Breitholle recorded 15 strikeouts, tying Fairfield’s single-game,
seven-inning record. It was Breitholle's second career no-hitter. |
