Even though his team didn’t
achieve their goal of winning a National Championship at the USA
Volleyball Boys Junior Olympics this past weekend, Lakota East
senior-to-be Doug Spotts received some well-deserved recognition. His
excellent all-around play at the event (held in Minneapolis, MN) landed
him on the prestigious Boys 18 National All-Tournament Team. Spotts
team, the Cincinnati Attack, finished 5th out of 55 teams, the clubs
best showing ever at the national championships. The eventual 18
National Champions Orange SC of Redondo Beach, California, eliminated
the Attack.
The other teams in the competition didn’t have an answer for the
talented outside hitter according to Attack coach Rick Kerkoff. "Doug
brought his best game and it got noticed," said Kerkoff. "For Doug to be
selected along side of some of the elite players in the country is quite
an honor."
Spotts was an All-State Honorable Mention selection this past spring
and helped the Thunderhawks get to the State Final Four in 2006. "It’s a
great honor for me and my family, but I still have unfinished business
at Lakota East: another GMC title and trip to state." Spotts plans for
the rest of the summer include attending the Ball State Volleyball Camp.
Joining him on the Cincy Attack were East teammate/graduate Alex
Hoekstra and Lakota West’s Joe Vella.
