Boone County Knocked Out In State Tournament Opener

Lady Rebels lose in low scoring game

Boone County got beat 33-26 by Montgomery County in the opening round of the Kentucky girls’ basketball state tournament on Thursday at Diddle Arena in Bowling Green, Ky.

Montgomery County, trailing 20-18 entering the fourth quarter, out-scored the Lady Rebels 15-6 in the final period to advance to the quarterfinals on Friday.

Boone County tied the game at 24-24 with 6:14 left in the game on a Jackie Hicks jumper but only scored one basket the rest of the way.  Hicks scored 10 points and finished with seven rebounds.

Shooting woes plagued both teams.  Montgomery County shot only 17.4 percent from the field for the game while Boone County managed just 25 percent.  Montgomery County held a 46-32 rebounding margin.  Maggie Prewitt scored a game-high 14 points for Montgomery County.
