Beechwood’s run to its first Kentucky state
championship in baseball came up short over the weekend at Applebee’s
Park in Lexington, Ky.
The Tigers (37-6), who won the All ‘A’ Classic
earlier in the season on the same field, fell to Lexington Catholic 6-4.
LexCath scored four runs in the bottom of the first
inning off starting pitcher Tommy Bankemper, keyed by a 2-run double by
Taylor Hatfield, putting Beechwood in a early hole. Beechwood bounced
back in the top of the second inning on RBI singles by seniors Patrick
Muth and Chris Curley to pull within 4-2 and got to within 4-3 in the
fourth inning but never got the lead.
The Knights (36-6-1) put the game away with a 2-run
fifth inning to win their first state title since 1999.
Muth ended the game 2-for-3 with two RBI to lead
Beechwood. |
