Beechwood is back in the Kentucky state baseball
tournament for the second time in three years after completing a
two-game sweep of Harrison County yesterday in semi-state play.
The Tigers (35-6), ranked No. 8 in the state,
defeated the Thoroughbreds 5-1 to win the three-game series 2-0. The
win came on the heels of a 6-5 win over Harrison County on Wednesday.
The Tigers broke open a scoreless game on Thursday
by scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and rode the arm of
senior Chris Curley, who pitched a complete game scattering four hits
along the way.
Beechwood was last in the state tournament in 2004,
where they were defeated by Louisville Trinity in the opening round.
They begin play on Thursday, June 15, at 6 p.m. at Applebee’s Park in
Lexington, Ky., against Christian County (29-9). |
