Beechwood Claims All “A” State Title

Tigers beat Owensboro Catholic in extra innings

Beechwood defeated Owensboro Catholic 6-5 in nine innings on Sunday at Applebee’s Park in Lexington, Ky., to win the All “A” title.

Senior Chris Curley got the game-winning RBI on a base hit in the bottom on the ninth inning that scored John Baker from second base.  Curley, generally considered the leading MVP candidate in Northern Kentucky this spring, was 3-for-5 at the plate with an RBI and pitched five innings, striking out seven batters.  Eric Sawyer went 2-for-3 at the plate.  Tommy Bankamper got credit for the win, pitching four shutout innings.

The Tigers (25-3), ranked No. 1 in Northern Kentucky, rolled to a 15-0 win over Pikeville on Friday and then defeated Campbellsville 5-4 in a semifinal game earlier in the day.
